Unifying Tea Farmers
Introduction:
The goal of this project was to research a specific industry and its’ details and create a uniform appropriate for it. It was important to not only look at the aesthetic side but take functionality into consideration as well.
Proposal:
Tea farmers are often left without a unifying attire and the functionality of their clothes is usually neglected. It was extremely important to create a uniform that had multiple uses and could easily be transformed into everyday clothing pieces. Sustainability was taken into account as well.
This uniform is designed for tea farmers. There is no specific age or gender that these clothes are suitable for. The pieces were designed for the weather conditions that occur in tea plantations in the Southern and Eastern Asia. Temperature in the warm season tends to be very high, the weather is typically sunny. The regions also experience a lot of rainfall, which is why this collection includes several waterproof raincoats. All of the materials are made from natural fibres, are lightweight, and suitable for hot and humid weather.
What regards the functionality of these uniforms, most of the pieces have several ways of wearing them. The worker is able to adjust it to their needs. As mentioned before, the fabrics were chosen considering the environment of tea farmers, making the uniforms more functional. Furthermore, some of the pieces have sheer parts, so they are even more breathable.
This project also includes a full range plan and technical packs.
This project was submited for the Westfield London Future Fashion competition 2021 and won second place. The competition was all about sustainable design approaches and development. The works were displayed in the Westfield London shoping center.
