[Internalised]
[Internalised]
“[Internalised]” focuses on the human body and bringing the inside of it out to the surface.
One of the first inspirations for this project was Ramon Y Cajal’s drawings of neurons. The lines of the sketches are very intricate, almost reminding of the human body vein system. The inspirations also dwell deeper, looking at the whole human body.
This collection showcases a simplified version of the different parts of the body. For example, tops and dresses have a knitted or crocheted line running down the middle of them, referencing the spine. Pants and skirts are made of sewn together panels, this way reminding of the muscle. Waxed cotton is used to showcase the structure of the hip bones. Finally, the fabric is dyed, trying to recreate microscopic pictures of the muscle tissue. It also adds a personal touch since every piece of fabric is different and cannot be recreated.
The project implements a number of sustainable approaches. The majority of the fabrics were sourced as deadstock material. The organic cotton was dyed using natural materials such as onion skin, green tea, and coffee.
This project also includes a full range plan and technical pack made with Illustrator.
